Shabir Shah’s ED remand extended by a day

NIA to produce arrested leaders in court tomorrow

Srinagar, Aug 02: The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) remand of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Shah been extended for one more day, while the seven other Hurriyat leaders will be produced in the court by National Investigation Agency (NIA) tomorrow.
A DPF leader told KNS that Shah was today produced by ED in the Patiala House Court in New Delhi after his seven day custody ended today. “But, the court extended his remand by one more day,” he told KNS.
Shah was arrested from his Sanantnagar residence by police and then was arrested by ED and flown to New Delhi. He is accused of money laundering and hawala charges.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had arrested seven Hurriyat leaders last month, will produce them in the Patiala House Court in New Delhi.
The leaders were arrested by NIA from Srinagar on July 24 for “creating” unrest by “taking money” from Pakistan and other hawala channels.
The seven leaders included, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Naeem Khan and Bitta Karate. (KNS)
