Army trooper, porter killed in Poonch IED blast after ceasefire violation; six others hurt

Poonch, October 12: An army soldier and a porter were killed while six other personnel were injured in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar in Poonch district along Line of Control today.

Official sources told news agency GNS that at around 10:30 am today, Pakistani troopers violated ceasefire and targeted Indian forward posts at Khad Karmara in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. He said the troopers returned the fire effectively.

After the ceasefire violation in the area, a powerful IED blast left eight persons including six troops and two porters of 15 MLI wounded. A porter and a soldier who were critically injured succumbed shortly to their injuries. All the injured were shifted to hospital and one of the critically wounded soldiers have been air lifted to the Command Hospital Udhampur.

The slain trooper and porter have been identified as Sepoy T K Reddy of Unit 898 and Mohammad Zahir (Token number 1112). The injured soldiers have been identified as Sepoy Kedar Gauri Shankar, Sepoy Nitesh Nare, NK Rupnar Babasheb Janaku, NK R Munthupondi, Sepoy Narendra Kumar and porter Muhammad Isaq.(GNS)
