Cop suspended as bribe video goes viral

Srinagar, Jan 22: Police on Monday suspended a Head Constable, barely an hour after his video clip went viral for getting bribe from a vehicle driver.

Official sources said that a video clip of the cop seen receiving bribe went viral on social media including facebook and whatsapp today.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar District Imtiaz Ismail Parray told news agency GNS that in the video clip policeman, who was at naka at Nageen, is seen receiving bribe from owner of a vehicle.

Soon after the video went viral, he said, police took immediate action by suspending him. The constable has been identified as Abdul Majeed.

“Veracity of the clip is being ascertained, prima facia looking the cop taking bribe”, SSP said.

The SSP, meanwhile, appealed the general public if anyone see cop indulging in corruption practice, he can come forward and action will be initiated as per law.

“People should come forward in order to eradicate the corruption in our society and report before the senior officers if they found any policeman receiving corruption,” SSP said, adding that subsequently action will be taken against this menace. (GNS)
