Unauthorised Digging Damaged NH-244 Road


Kishtwar, June 11: The Kishtwar Police has registered a criminal case against the management of Bharti Airtel & Reliance Jio Telecom companies for mercilessly destroying 62 kilometers of road from Chatroo to Sinthan Top. The Police during investigation has found that the management of these companies without any permission and in sheer violation of guidelines has destroyed the NH-244 road in such a way that it appears as a water canal instead of road. At many places the people are using the parts of this damaged road for water channelization. The whole drainage system of the road has got collapsed by the illegal activities of these companies by using the heavy machinery including full size JCBs. The Police has taken cognizance and strong note of damages on the complaint of NHIDCL. Police has arrested 06 persons so for and seized huge machinery.

The Police Station Chatroo received a written complaint from NHIDCL (National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) that the Reliance Jio & Bharti Airtel has started the unauthorised digging of the NH-244 road from Chatroo to Sinthan Top for laying of the optical fiber. It has been stated in the complaint that due to the unauthorized merciless digging of the road by these companies with heavy machinery loss of crores of rupees has occurred to the road. The road surface, road shoulders & the side drains have got badly damaged. As per the assessment made by the NHIDCL the telecom companies have caused loss of crores of rupees to the road.

Taking cognizance of the matter the Police has registered case FIR No. 22/2018 under section 431,336,427/RPC read with section 3 of Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act in Police Station Chatroo. The Police during the course of investigation has found that the damages are actually caused to the road is alleged in the complaint. The Police has so for arrested 06 persons and has seized the various machines of heavy machinery including JCBs used for damaging the road. The Police may arrest the officers at the top level management of the company under whose order the road has been damaged. Police has also started the hunt to arrest the contractors to whom the works were allotted unauthorisedly which resulted into complete damag of the road.
The road from Batote to Sinthan is used as alternate route for movement of forces to strife torn valley during fair weather. The police is also looking into the aspects of conspiracy to damage this alternate route for emergency movements.
When contacted the Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary has said that we have registered an FIR in Police Station Chatroo and the investigation are under way. The Reliance Jio & Bharti Airtel has no doubt caused heavy damages to the road by using heavy machinery. The act of these companies is illegal and unauthorised for which the law shall take its proper course, said the SSP.
