SSA teachers hold strong protests across Kashmir to press for demands

Srinagar, June 13: On the eve of eid the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers on Wednesday held massive protests across Kashmir valley to press for their demands.
Pertinently, the protesting teachers were demanding implementation of 7th pay commission besides de-linking their salary from Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD).
Massive protests erupted at district level against the government for their “in-different attitude” towards SSA teachers.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled a sit-in organized by teachers joint action committee outside civil secretariat Srinagar and bundled the leaders of various associations in police vehicles. They were later lodged at Shaheed Gunj Police station.
“Around 80 representatives are lodged in Police station. We were not allowed to stage sit-in outside secretariat and were cane charged by the police,” said president JK teachers’ forum Abdul Qayoom Wani.
Pertinently, on June 11 giving a major relief to the teachers working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA), Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti ordered the immediate release of Rs 143 crore for paying their pending salaries.
The Chief Minister also directed constitution of a high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary, B B Vyas to look into other issues of the SSA teachers and suggest remedial measures to address all concerns in a time bound and comprehensive manner. The members of the committee include Administrative Secretaries of Finance, Planning and Education Departments whileas Director, SSA would be the member secretary of the
